ILIGAN, Philippines — Galansiyang, Inc., which is a core player in the Leave a Nest Forest Project, participated in the eTanom Earth Day School Fair 2024 and introduced an innovative method for students to plant trees without leaving the classroom. This groundbreaking approach aimed to engage young minds in climate education and reforestation efforts within their school premises.

During the fair, Galansiyang conducted a hands-on Earth Pill making demonstration workshop. Earth Pills are small, nutrient-rich gelatin capsules containing seeds and biotech components, designed to be easily planted and nurtured, which is different from the typical seed balls that the startup makes. This method simplifies the process of tree planting, making it accessible and fun for students of all ages.

The workshop began with an introduction to the current climate situation and the importance of reforestation and the role of trees in maintaining ecological balance. Students learned about the various benefits of trees, including food security, habitat creation, and soil stabilization. This foundational knowledge set the stage for the practical session that followed.

In the demonstration, students got a glimpse of the step-by-step process of creating Earth Pills. A pulverized mixture of rice hull, manure, cocopeat, and bonemeal was used in the capsule filler kit to encapsulate the Narra seeds, making it easy to scatter in designated planting areas. This hands-on activity not only taught them about the components necessary for plant growth but also instilled a sense of responsibility and provided an actionable solution to fight deforestation.

The students were enthusiastic participants, eagerly engaging in the Earth Pill-making process. Their excitement was palpable as they realized that they could contribute to reforestation efforts from their classrooms. The formal Earth Pill-making workshop program will be fully launched this upcoming School Year 2024-2025 this August.
